Our U18 youth league team played a friendly match against Slovan Bratislava U19 during their training camp in Dunajská Streda. Head coach Goran Kopunović and coach Méhes Endre gave our readers his thoughts on the game.
“Slovan Bratislava U19, a team with a rich tradition, didn’t surprise us – we faced physically strong and fast players, almost fully developed senior-level athletes. In the 21st minute, after we missed a clear chance, they responded with a well-placed cross and clinical finishing reminiscent of senior football – they took the lead from what might have been their first real attack. Soon after, they regained possession in our defensive third, and a well-delivered cross was tapped into the net by their striker – we went into halftime 0–2 down.
In the second half, we brought on the players who had featured more in the Kukkonia Cup – we made seven changes. In the 67th minute, following an unsuccessful clearance, they played through us again to make it 3–0. In the 75th minute, Ramon Erdei scored after a rebounded corner: 3–1. Just two minutes later, Tóth-Pál won the ball from a defender, broke into the box, and was fouled – he converted the penalty himself to make it 3–2. In the closing minutes we put pressure on Slovan and created two big chances near the goal; with a bit more luck, we could have even turned the game around. It was a very useful and instructive match – we’re continuing our preparations for the season!”
