Our academy teams are also preparing for the upcoming season. We begin preparations with a renewed technical staff, and Zoltán Dusinszki, technical director of the Székelyföld Football Academy — ranked second again in the Romanian academy rankings — tells us about the updates.
The leadership of the technical staff of our academy teams has changed almost completely compared to last season. Goran Kopunović takes over our U18 youth team, while Szilárd Mitra joins the U17 team. In these two age groups, Endre Méhes will be the assistant coach, Norbert Dénes the fitness coach, and Tiberiu Lung the goalkeeping coach. In the U16 age group, Bernát Burus remains as head coach, continuing with last year’s U15 team, while Zoltán Fogarasi takes charge of the U15s. In these two groups, Szabolcs Bartis will be the assistant coach, Ervin Fodor the fitness coach, and Alpár Bartók the goalkeeping coach.
The name of Goran Kopunović may be familiar to many football fans: the former Bunjevac footballer from Serbia played for two seasons at Ferencváros, scoring in the Champions League group stage for the Hungarian side. He joins us as a professional living in Hungary, with coaching experience at youth and, mostly, senior level teams in several countries. Szilárd Mitra has worked in senior football as an assistant coach in Odorheiu Secuiesc and Târgu Mureș, and chose Miercurea Ciuc for this season. Zoltán Fogarasi comes from Diósgyőr, where he worked recently as U19 coach and academy director, and last season he was technical director at Hatvan, from where he joins us to support our work.
The four academy age groups began preparations on July 7, which will last five weeks until the start of the league competitions. During this period, each team will take part in an international tournament or training camp. The U15s will compete at the Csaba Burus Memorial Tournament, which will be combined with the sports park naming ceremony. The U16s will travel with the U15s to a training camp in Cegléd, Hungary, where they will play several preparation matches. The U17s will participate in the Székely Land Cup alongside other hungarian academies abroad and the Puskás Academy teams. The U18s will travel to Dunaszerdahely (Dunajská Streda, Slovakia) for the Kukkonia Cup, where abroad academies and Puskás Academy teams will also compete at U19 level; after the tournament, the boys will stay for another week of training in Dunaszerdahely.
Zoltán Dusinszki stated: at the moment, several players in each age group are on trial at the academy; this stage will continue for another two or three weeks, after which the final squads will be formed for a season that we hope will prove more successful than the last.
