Although they had their chance, our U16 team could not secure a win against FCSB last weekend. Head coach Burus Bernát sums up the reasons behind the result.

We hosted the group leaders, FCSB, knowing that a team of similarly high quality was coming to us, just like our previous opponents, Farul. I believe the boys executed their tasks very well tactically—disciplined, mature, and with the right level of aggressiveness. We collected second balls effectively and were often dangerous in transitions. Our defensive work and goalkeeping in the first half were outstanding, but this applies collectively to the whole team, as the boys mobilised immense energy.

The penalty could have been a turning point—there is always the question of “what if it had gone in?”. Of course, we will never know, because in football “what if” does not play. This scenario is part of the game and places the team in front of new challenges.

The team was not broken by that moment; the boys continued to play just as focused and disciplined. The second half did not change the course of the match either. I believe we were absolutely not inferior to FCSB and often managed to get the upper hand, but unfortunately football is not always fair, and they capitalised on our single defensive mistake.

I feel this defeat is unfair, because the boys did so much to leave the field with at least one point. At the same time, we must be proud of the way the team played and of the tactical elements that appeared on the pitch. Beyond the result, this should be our primary priority. I am certain that in the long run, with this level of play and determination, the luck factor will also return to our side and we will be able to celebrate at the final whistle.
