This Saturday marks the start of the new Women’s Superliga season, and FK Csíkszereda will immediately face their main rival, Farul Constanța, in the opening round.
At the seaside team’s request, the match – originally scheduled to be played in Miercurea Ciuc – will instead take place in Constanța. However, this change will hardly matter when it comes to measuring strength: in the clash between last season’s champions and cup winners, we will see which side is in the best early-season form.
Head coach Szilvia Szeitl and her players are naturally aiming for victory in this very first match, one that could set the tone for the entire season. In her pre-match interview, Szeitl made it clear that the timing and venue of the rivalry don’t matter.
“I’m not afraid of anyone, and I try to pass on this mindset to the girls. It doesn’t matter when we meet our rivals – in this first round we’ll see where we stand. I trust the team, and I believe we will return home with all three points,” said the coach.
The players are equally determined. Andrea Herczeg believes the preparation went well:
“We’ve had tough weeks with good training sessions and successful games. We are ready, and it doesn’t matter against whom or where we start – only the three points. Our goal is to win the championship and defend the cup.”
New signing Réka Demeter has quickly integrated into the squad and shares the same ambitions:
“I feel very good here, the girls welcomed me warmly. I truly want us to win the championship and defend the cup.”
As for the rest of the league, the top flight will again feature eight teams this season: seven from last year, plus Politehnica Timișoara, returning after a one-year absence in place of Hermannstadt. After a full round of 14 matches, the standings will once again split – the top four advancing to the play-off, while the rest compete in the play-out. A new feature this year is that three of the four matches in each round of the regular season will be broadcast live on Pro Arena or the federation’s website, Frf.tv. Thus, Saturday’s Farul–FK Csíkszereda clash, kicking off at 12:00, will also be live on Pro Arena.
