Our U16 team’s league campaign came to an end on Saturday with an away trip to Bucharest. Burus Bernát’s side finished sixth in their eight-team playoff group and signed off the season with a 1–1 draw away to Știința.

According to the head coach, his team played with freedom and good rhythm in the season finale and already had several chances in the first half to put the game beyond doubt.

“We played our final match of the season and the team delivered an excellent, relaxed performance while creating chances one after another. Around the middle of the first half we took the lead, then before the break we also had a clear one-on-one chance and hit the post. Had those gone in, we could have wrapped up the match already in the first half,” said Burus Bernát.

The pattern of the game did not change significantly after the restart: FK remained in control and created further opportunities, but the second goal never arrived. The missed chances eventually proved costly, as the hosts equalised in the 75th minute following a wide free-kick.

“The second half followed a similar pattern as well. We played well and created opportunities, but unfortunately we could not convert them into goals. We had the outcome of the match in our own hands and could have closed it out on several occasions,” added the head coach.

Although the victory did not come this time, Burus Bernát believes the team’s performance and attitude send an encouraging message for the future.

“It would have been especially pleasing to finish the league campaign with a win, but the football we showed, together with the determination and heart displayed by the team, gives us confidence for the future,” concluded the U16 head coach.
