Szuperliga | Csíkszereda Hermannstadt ellen: csak a győzelem számít

Only a win is acceptable against the Sibiu side, according to head coach Ilyés Róbert. Our direct rival in the relegation battle arrives at the Municipal Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Monday’s match will be the penultimate opportunity to support FK Csíkszereda at home in the Superliga regular season, and it comes against a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation. For the red and blacks, one could say that the play-out practically begins now, as we are very likely to face all remaining opponents again in the next phase.

The Sibiu team, who compete under the German name of their city in the Romanian league, surely did not expect to sit in the penultimate direct relegation spot with only three rounds left in the regular season, seven points behind 14th-placed Slobozia. However, they can hope for a good performance in Miercurea Ciuc and for the points gap between teams to be halved when the next phase begins. Their recent form is not necessarily encouraging for them: in 2026 they have only beaten Slobozia and drawn with Farul, while losing their last three matches. Still, this run can be interpreted differently – they focused mainly on lower-ranked sides, and defeats against teams fighting for the top six were not disastrous. Since their October 20 loss against us, they have recorded a win against Slobozia and draws with Petrolul and Metaloglobus.

As we know, FK Csíkszereda’s only away victory so far came in Sibiu, where we won 2–0 against a side that has since changed coaches and has been led by Dorinel Munteanu since the end of 2025.

As for us, we have three wins and three losses in 2026 and currently occupy 13th place, the relegation play-off spot. Petrolul increased their advantage to three points in the previous round in a match where an officially acknowledged refereeing mistake effectively gifted them the three points. Against Hermannstadt and then against Petrolul in the next round, we have a significant opportunity to turn this gap in our favor.

At the pre-match press conference, head coach Ilyés Róbert stressed that only victory is acceptable from his players: “We needed those rest days because we had been playing every three days and traveling a lot, but this week we trained at full intensity. I believe we look good in every respect, and we are really looking forward to the match to prove ourselves. Both teams desperately need points, but we are playing at home, we want to use our home advantage and move up the table.”

Wilhelm Loeper hopes the team can deliver a strong performance on Monday: “We know it’s an important match. We want to make it difficult for our opponent, so I hope we go out there with a lot of energy and playfulness.”

The Swedish winger also shared his first impressions of FK Csíkszereda and Romanian football: “My first impressions are very positive, I enjoy being part of this team. I like it here in Miercurea Ciuc; everything has been good so far. It’s hard to give a deep comparison between Swedish and Romanian football since I’ve only played two league matches, but I would say there are perhaps more individually strong and technically skilled players here, with greater freedom in their play. In terms of level and physical intensity, the leagues feel quite similar. So far, I have a very good impression of Romanian football.”

The match of round 28 of the regular season kicks off on Monday at 5:00 PM at the Municipal Stadium. The ticket offices open one and a half hours before kick-off, and tickets are still available. Those unable to attend can watch the match live on Digisport 1 and Prima Sport 1.

Go FK, go Szereda, go Székely Land!
