Elitliga | Az U16-os csapat az első biztos playoffrésztvevő

Our academy teams concluded the ninth round of the league season with two victories, one draw and one defeat. Our U18s defeated UTA Arad at home, while the visitors won the U17 encounter. Our U16 side twice came from behind to earn a point in Brașov, while our U15s claimed a convincing four-goal victory. With this result, the U16s became the first of our academy teams to mathematically secure their place in the play-offs.

Our four teams scored a total of eight goals and conceded five over the weekend. With two rounds remaining in the regular season, our U18s lead the Western Group, the U15s sit second, the U16s are top of their group, while the U17s occupy fourth place, the final play-off position. The top four teams in each group will advance to the play-offs.

U18

Our U18 team took the lead as early as the 10th minute of their home fixture against UTA Arad, with Kertész Márk finding the net. The visitors equalised through Zvenca Angelo in the 22nd minute, sending the teams into the break level at 1–1.

The winning goal came in the 78th minute, when Máthé Apor scored, and our team successfully protected its one-goal advantage for the remainder of the match.

After nine matches, our U18s lead the Western Group with 19 points, ahead of Viitorul Cluj—also on 19 points—thanks to their superior goal difference. Another important factor in the play-off race is that fifth-placed Sepsi OSK are five points behind us. Our qualification is not yet mathematically secure, but our fate remains in our own hands.

U17

In the U17 encounter, UTA Arad took all three points away from Miercurea Ciuc thanks to two first-half goals. Manolache Alessio scored in the 30th minute before Bătrân-Burchardt Andrei found the net in the 39th.

We attempted to change the course of the match with several substitutions in the second half, but were unable to break down the visitors’ well-organised defence.

Despite the defeat, our U17s remain fourth—the final play-off position—with 17 points. UTA and Universitatea Cluj also have 17 points, while seventh-placed Universitatea Craiova trail the trio by only one point. The final two rounds will therefore be crucial, as several teams in the group still have a realistic chance of finishing in the top four.

U16

Kids Tâmpa Brașov took the lead in the third minute of the top-of-the-table U16 clash, but Matei Darius equalised in the 18th minute to restore parity before the break.

The home side went ahead again in the 80th minute, but our players refused to give up. Boér Szabolcs made it 2–2 in the 87th minute, ensuring that we left Brașov with a valuable point.

Head coach Fogarasi Zoltán said the team had worked well in the week leading up to the match and therefore approached the meeting between the group’s two highest-scoring sides with confidence and thorough preparation.

– That is precisely why I was surprised by our poor start, as we fell behind in the third minute following a defensive mistake. We then tried to take control of the game, but could not find our rhythm. We were unable to put together more than three passes, so we rarely managed to create chances – the coach reflected.

Our team also missed a fully justified penalty, but the squandered opportunity did not discourage the boys and we equalised shortly afterwards.

– We were unable to capitalise on the psychological boost provided by the goal, however, and continued to play inaccurately. We posed no real threat to the opposition’s goal, although they did not seriously threaten ours either. The play was scrappy, with both teams mostly feeding off each other’s mistakes.

The pattern of the match did not change significantly in the second half. According to Fogarasi Zoltán, we were unable to retain possession effectively, while our midfield was less active than usual.

– We relied on long balls from our defenders, but could not retain possession after them. We were also less effective at winning second balls than in our previous matches. Somewhat unexpectedly, the home side regained the lead following a counterattack as the match entered its closing stages, but we managed to draw level again soon afterwards. We then fought to claim all three points and created several chances, but ultimately could not turn the match in our favour.

Our head coach considered the draw a fair result and praised the players’ fighting spirit.

– The fact that we created more chances during the three minutes of stoppage time than in the preceding 90 minutes says a great deal about our combination play and our opportunities in front of goal. However, I can only praise the team’s fighting spirit, because we came back from a losing position twice.

The point had special significance: with two rounds remaining in the regular season, our U16s became the first of our academy teams to mathematically secure a place in the play-offs. They lead their group with 23 points and hold an eight-point advantage over the fifth-placed team, with only six points left to play for.

– I am delighted and proud that today’s draw has secured our place in the play-offs with two regular-season matches remaining. The boys and the staff deserve congratulations, and we also thank the club and the academy for their support. Our main objective in the remaining matches will be to take as many points as possible with us into the play-offs – said Fogarasi Zoltán.

U15

Our U15 team laid the foundations for their victory in Brașov by scoring twice within the space of a minute midway through the first half. Becze Balázs found the net in the 25th minute, followed by Sângerean Darius in the 26th.

After the interval, Benkes András—returning from a lengthy injury lay-off—extended our advantage to three goals in the 69th minute. Three minutes later, Sângerean Darius completed the scoring and his brace.

Head coach Burus Bernát said the players had worked with great purpose throughout the week, and the fruits of their efforts were evident in the match.

– We knew we were facing a team capable of creating dangerous situations easily if we gave them space and allowed them to develop their play. Nevertheless, the team defended in a very compact and organised manner. The players carried out their tasks almost flawlessly. Of course, there were a few minor and more significant errors, but that is entirely natural in youth football.

The opening 20–25 minutes were evenly contested, with neither side creating a major opportunity. Two quick goals from our team then transformed the match.

– We took the lead in the 25th minute at the end of a fine passing move. Shortly afterwards, following a long-range free kick, we attacked the space in front of goal extremely well, followed the flight of the ball and scored our second goal. This allowed us to go into the break with a 2–0 lead.

The home side changed their system in the second half and applied greater pressure to our goal, but our defence continued to perform solidly.

– I believe we stood firm extremely well, and I must once again highlight our defensive performance. We also had a little luck: after one of our own corners, the opposition launched a counterattack and hit the post, but our goalkeeper produced an outstanding save to turn the effort onto the woodwork.

One of the most pleasing moments of the match was the return of Benkes András.

– Benkes András, who returned after a lengthy injury, followed the cross superbly and directed a fine header into the opposition’s net to make it 3–0. Soon afterwards, András also spotted an excellent run in behind, leading to our fourth goal.

Burus Bernát was satisfied with the team’s performance, but stressed that further results are still required in the coming rounds to achieve their primary objective.

– Congratulations to the boys, because they produced a tremendous performance! It was a pleasure to watch the match from the touchline and see the work and attitude they had shown throughout the week. We keep moving forward, because we have not yet achieved our objective. We have taken a huge step towards it, but another difficult away match awaits us in Botoșani. Our only aim there can be to collect all three points and officially achieve the target we set at the beginning of the season. We thank the parents who attended for their encouragement and support!

After nine rounds, our U15s sit second with 22 points, one behind leaders Juniorul. We are three points ahead of fifth-placed Petrolul, meaning our play-off qualification is not yet mathematically secure, but another victory would represent a decisive step towards advancing.
