It would have been important for the final standings to keep all three points at home in the U17 Elite League against CFR, and although we took the lead, in the end we had to settle for a draw.
In the first half, only FK were dangerous in attack in Sunday afternoon’s match. In the opening quarter of an hour, Ilyés Máté and Bota Darius shared chances, but the Cluj goal remained intact. After the first 15 minutes, the game slowed down as the visitors consolidated their defence. Still, the half didn’t end goalless: in the last minute, Máthé Apor struck a volley from mid-range into the bottom right corner to put us ahead.
The second half brought no major changes: our boys pushed, CFR defended. In the 56th minute, out of nowhere, a long-range, deflected effort beat Györfi: 1–1. And in the 63rd minute, the visitors almost completed the turnaround, Han’s shot going narrowly wide after a nice combination. There was still plenty of time for a winning goal on our side too, but we couldn’t create truly dangerous chances.
Three points would have been precious in this match, helping us strengthen our play-off place in fourth. We can do that on Wednesday, when we play the rescheduled match from round 6 against Universitatea Craiova, who come from third place with a two-point advantage.
