Oniga Victor helped Romania’s U17 national team with two goals in the first round of European Championship qualifying, while Orbán Hunor featured in both of the U16 national team’s friendlies against Georgia. The two players from our academy completed successful spells on international duty.

Oniga contributed two goals as Romania topped their group

Romania’s U17 national team, coached by Alexandru Ciobanu, began their qualifying campaign for the 2027 European Championship in Cyprus. Their opponents in Group 13 were the Faroe Islands and hosts Cyprus.

In the opening match on 27 October, Oniga Victor played a leading role in the 4–0 victory: our forward opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before finding the net again three minutes later. Ștefan Nastac and David Loghin added goals in the second half. Victor started the match and played the full game.

Between the two qualifiers, Romania faced Japan in a friendly in Sotira on 30 October. In the match, which ended in a 1–1 draw, our player came on for David Avram in the 68th minute. Japan took an early lead through Ren Isobe, with Avram equalising before half-time.

Oniga returned to the starting line-up for the final group match against Cyprus on 2 November and was substituted at half-time. Romania settled the contest late on: an own goal put them ahead in the 90+2nd minute, before Avram made it 2–0 two minutes later.

The U17 national team thus won their group with two victories, six points and a goal difference of 6–0. They will continue in League A in the next round as they pursue qualification for the European Championship in Latvia. Oniga featured in all three matches in Cyprus, starting both competitive fixtures and scoring twice.

Orbán featured both as a substitute and as a starter

Orbán Hunor took part in Romania’s U16 national team programme, led by Lucian Mezei, from 25 October to 4 November. The team played two friendlies against Georgia, both at the GFF Technical Centre in Rustavi.

Romania won the first match on 1 November 1–0, thanks to Cristian Ganea’s goal in the 41st minute. Hunor came on for Eduard Popa in the 61st minute.

For the second meeting on 4 November, the national team coach named him in the starting line-up: our player remained on the pitch until the 59th minute, when Valentin Marica replaced him. Romania again won 1–0, with Eduard Popa scoring the only goal in the 70th minute.

Hunor therefore featured in both matches, while the U16 team ended their games in Georgia with two wins and no goals conceded.

Congratulations to our players on their international appearances, and we wish them continued success!
